Choir is, by definition, “An organized group of singers, typically one that takes part in church services or performs regularly in public.” A choir is a fantastic way to be involved in the community by using your gift (or just pure passion) to serve others. If God has given you the natural gift and talent of singing, that’s great! If you feel like you don’t have as much talent or potential as others, that’s fine too. Remember, never compare yourself to others. If you feel like you’re better than others, it will make you prideful, and if you feel like you’re worse than others, it will make you miserable. It’s okay to admire other singers and voices, but focus on the level that you’re at so you can grow instead of beating yourself down because “that one soprano sounds prettier than me”.
Besides, you can learn how to sing even if you don’t think you are naturally talented. Everyone has to start somewhere, even the best musicians.
In this series I will teach you how to stand in a choir, how to read choir music, how to improve your musicality and vocal tone, how to breathe correctly, and much more. In the next choir post you will learn how to stand up straight in any choir situation – audition or performance. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next post!
